Before you book

  • Decide legal or personal first. A legal test needs a witnessed collection and photo ID for every adult tested; an at-home kit does not, but its result cannot be used in court.
  • Ask which lab runs the sample. For anything a court or agency will see, the testing laboratory should be accredited for relationship testing by AABB.
  • Bring the right documents. Photo ID for adults, and a birth certificate or immunization record for a child.
  • Confirm the price includes everything. Collection fee, lab fee, and extra copies of the report are sometimes billed separately.
